ROLEX Midas Ref. 9630 WG – 1968
This Rolex King Midas ref. 9630 in white gold is one of the rarest and most unconventional creations in the brand’s history. Produced between 1962 and 1972, only 144 examples were made in white gold, making it an ultra-rare collector’s piece and the very first limited-edition Rolex ever released. Designed by Gérald Genta, the case draws inspiration from classical architecture, featuring an asymmetric silhouette that mimics the shape of a Greek temple. The integrated bracelet and case are both unpolished and show honest signs of wear, preserving the original sharp lines and distinct geometry that define the King Midas. At just under 27mm wide and 4mm thick, it houses the manual-wind caliber 650, celebrated for its slim profile and reliability. The crown is uniquely placed on the left side with a sawtooth design, a subtle reference to the mythology of King Midas himself. Weighing in at approximately 200 grams, this was the heaviest gold Rolex of its time and one of the first to feature a sapphire crystal. With its low production number, original condition, and bold presence, this King Midas is a true statement piece. Rare, historic, and daring, it remains one of the most distinctive and sought-after Rolex watches ever made.
