What you should know: rare Queen Midas – the ladies version of the famous King Midas
ROLEX Queen Midas Ref. 4313 WG – 1976
Launched in 1962, the King and Queen Midas watches were limited editions, designed by none other than the legendary Gérald Genta. The King Midas was named after the mythical Greek king, who was said to turn everything he touched with his left hand into gold. This could explain why the sun-shaped crown is placed on the left side of the square case. The first King Midas reference, 9630, was produced in a series of 1,000 pieces, which also included later references 3580 and 4315. Here, we have the ladies’ version of this iconic watch – the so called Queen Midas. Interestingly, the unique numbering system was carried across all models, with this particular piece engraved with number 4946 on the back of the upper strap. Crafted from 18k white gold, this Queen Midas is in good condition, with sharp edges and well preserved lines. Dating back to 1976, it shows no signs of polishing. Both the King and Queen Midas were produced in yellow and white gold, but in very limited quantities. Compared to the King Midas, the Queen Midas is even rarer, with the total production likely numbering only a few hundred pieces – though the exact figure remains unknown.
