AUDEMARS PIGUET Jules Audemars Ref. 25934BA Perpetual Calendar – 1990s
Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar Ref. 25934BA – Long before perpetual calendars became a staple of modern luxury watchmaking, Audemars Piguet had already established itself as one of the undisputed masters of the complication. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the manufacture produced a series of remarkably elegant ultra-thin perpetual calendars that are increasingly recognised today as some of the most important complicated wristwatches of the era. The reference 25934BA perfectly captures this period. Crafted entirely from 18k yellow gold and fitted with its original solid gold bracelet, the watch combines traditional Swiss haute horlogerie with the understated elegance that defined Audemars Piguet’s dress watches of the late twentieth century. Measuring approximately 39 mm, it offers a surprisingly contemporary presence on the wrist while maintaining the refined proportions expected from a classic perpetual calendar. At the heart of the watch lies the legendary Audemars Piguet Calibre 2120/2808, one of the most celebrated perpetual calendar movements ever produced. Based on the ultra-thin Calibre 2120 and enhanced with a perpetual calendar module, the movement became a cornerstone of Audemars Piguet’s reputation for complicated watchmaking. Its slim architecture, technical sophistication and historical importance have made it highly desirable among collectors who appreciate traditional mechanical watchmaking at its highest level. What makes references such as the 25934BA particularly compelling today is their position within the market. For many years, collector attention focused almost exclusively on sports models, while complicated Audemars Piguet dress watches remained comparatively overlooked. This trend has begun to shift significantly. As collectors increasingly explore the broader history of the manufacture, neo-vintage perpetual calendars from the 1980s and 1990s are receiving the recognition they deserve for both their technical significance and their relative rarity. This example is accompanied by its original papers and instruction manual, a combination that is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Elegant, mechanically fascinating and increasingly appreciated by discerning collectors, the reference 25934BA represents an opportunity to acquire a significant perpetual calendar from one of the world’s great watchmaking houses during a period that many enthusiasts now regard as a golden age of complicated wristwatches.
