ROLEX Explorer I “blackout” – 1991
This is a true and nice example of neo-vintage luxury. The Rolex Ref. 14270 is from 1991. The case and bracelet is made out of stainless steel and in overall beautiful condition. What makes this WIRSTCLASSIC unique and rare is the outstanding “black-out” dial. The very first version of ref. 14270 Rolex Explorer was released in 1990. The most noticeable enhancement was the gloss dial and sapphire crystal. The very first batches of the ref. 14270 Explorer to leave the Rolex factory seemed to have come with a gloss dial that had its “3, 6, 9” arabic hour numerals filled in with black enamel. Explorers with the black enamel filled hour markers all seem to have serial numbers starting with the letter prefix “E” or “X,” corresponding to production years 1990 and 1991. This means that a very limited production run of 14270s have dials with “3, 6, 9” arabic numerals accented with the color black. This “blackout” dial is in perfect condition with the original tritium lume making this timepiece special and unique. The case and the bracelet have only light signs of use. The movement is an automatic movement, running well and keeping time. Recently serviced the watch runs strong and keeps time well. This is a true WRISTCLASSIC by an iconic brand. These kinds of watches were and are the best of the best in terms of quality.
