This Universal Genève Compur 30 Ref. 22409 is a truly fascinating piece of watchmaking and military history. Dating back to the early 1940s, these chronographs were supplied to the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM), the German Ministry of Aviation during World War II, and were intended for aviation and navigation purposes. The distinctive “RLM-Nav.” engraving on the caseback reflects this remarkable historical connection.
Already a rare chronograph in its own right, the military-issued version of the Compur 30 is considerably harder to find, especially in such honest and original condition. What makes this particular example truly special is its completely unpolished stainless steel case, retaining beautifully defined edges and, most importantly, exceptionally well-preserved engravings. The military marking, serial number and reference remain clearly legible, something far from guaranteed on a watch more than 80 years old. The original black dial has never been restored and shows some natural signs of age and use, while the hands and luminous material remain in their original condition. Despite its age, the watch presents itself remarkably well, with the kind of authentic vintage character that collectors appreciate. Powered by the legendary hand-wound Universal Genève Caliber 386, this 38 mm chronograph combines beautiful early chronograph engineering with genuine historical significance. An exceptionally rare and highly collectible WRISTCLASSIC, representing a remarkable surviving piece of 1940s military watchmaking.1 in stock
